Is Chiropractic safe?

Chiropractic is amongst the safest of the healing arts. While any form of health care contains a degree of inherent risk, there is little danger in chiropractic care administered by a licensed practitioner. To assure competency and make certain that chiropractic care is conducted in a scientific and professional manner, all states require that Chiropractors be registered and licensed under strict criteria.

In fact statistics show that patient risk is substantially lower in chiropractic as opposed to medical care where the risk of iatrogenic (treatment caused) injury by prescription drugs and surgery pose a far greater risk. These two hazards, which are avoided in chiropractic care, represent the overwhelming concerns in health science today.

To place this in perspective, studies show that their is about a 100 times greater risk of dying from an ulcer due to taking a prescription NSAID (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory) like 'Nurofen', 'Naprosyn', 'Feldene' or 'Voltaren' than being injured by a Chiropractor.

The chiropractic profession has a well established record of safety and efficacy, and chiropractors' malpractice insurance rates remain among the lowest in the health professions. Further the profession is leading the way in research to learn more about complications from care, and working to reduce them still further. Despite occasional sensationalistic reports in the media, the facts show that chiropractic care ranks among the safest and most effective forms of health care ever offered.
